Festive Christmas Wreath Cupcakes: Easy Holiday Recipe

Festive Christmas Wreath Cupcakes are chocolate cupcakes blended with cold brew coffee and cocoa, topped with vanilla buttercream frosting colored blue. Decorative melted white chocolate ribbons and blue sprinkles create a holiday wreath effect, making these cupcakes visually festive and rich in flavor.

Description

This recipe starts with a cupcake batter combining butter, vegetable oil, cold brew coffee, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla, mixed with flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Baking yields moist chocolate cupcakes with enhanced coffee depth. After cooling, cupcakes are frosted with a buttercream mixing butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, heavy cream, and salt, which is tinted blue for the wreath theme.

Melted white chocolate is formed into ribbons using a mold, chilled briefly, and used as a decorative element on top of the cupcakes along with blue sprinkles to resemble holiday wreaths. The balance of chocolate and coffee creates a rich flavor profile enhanced by the smooth vanilla frosting.

These cupcakes suit holiday celebrations with a distinctive visual appeal and a combination of caffeine and chocolate for a flavorful treat. Proper cooling before frosting and chilling after decorating help maintain the design.

Gel food coloring ensures vivid frosting color without altering texture. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting to prevent issues, and refrigerate after decorating to set the wreath details.

Ingredients

Servings

Cupcake ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp butter unsalted
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup cold brew coffee
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 egg large
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Frosting ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter softened, unsalted
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Additional ingredients:

  • Blue Food coloring
  • 1/4 cup white melting wafers
  • party sprinkles blue

Instructions

Cupcake directions:

  1. Before you begin, preheat the oven to 350F. Add cupcake liners to a cupcake pan. Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter and add to a large stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Add the oil, coffee, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla. Mix to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the stand mixer at a low speed. Scrape the sides of the bowl halfway through.
  4. Scoop about 3 tablespoons of the dough into each cupcake liner. Bake for 22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. After baking, transfer to a wire rack to cool before frosting.
  5. Start making the chocolate ribbons by melting the wafers in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds at a time until they are completely melted.
  6. Add the melted chocolate to the ribbon mold. Tap the mold on the surface to remove any air bubbles. Put the filled mold in the fridge for about 5 minutes in order to set. Once the chocolate has set, remove them from the mold.

Frosting directions:

  1. To make the frosting, add butter to a large bowl in a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Mix on medium-high speed for about 2 minutes.
  2. Once the butter has been creamed, turn the speed down to a low setting and slowly add the powdered sugar. Scrape the sides of the bowl.
  3. Add the vanilla, cream, and salt. Mix on high for about 2 minutes.
  4. Transfer the frosting to another bowl and then add a few drops of food coloring. Stir well. Continue to add more food coloring until you reach your desired shade. Once you're happy with it, transfer to a piping bag.

Assembly directions:

  1. To assemble the Christmas wreath cupcakes, pipe a circle on the outside edge around the cupcake in an overlapping pattern. For best results, use a large leaf tip. You may also opt to use a large star tip.
  2. Add the white chocolate ribbon to the front and finish off with the sprinkles.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant frosting without affecting texture.
  • Ensure cupcakes are fully cooled before applying frosting to avoid melting and poor adherence.
  • Chill decorated cupcakes in the refrigerator to help the wreath design set firmly.
