French Bread Pizza
Description
French Bread Pizza begins with halving a fresh French bread loaf lengthwise, then spreading the cut sides with a mixture of softened butter, fresh basil, parsley, and garlic powder. This herb butter flavors the base beneath the sauce. The bread halves are topped evenly with pizza sauce, followed by a mixture of cheeses typically including mozzarella and pecorino-romano. Seasonings of oregano and red pepper flakes are sprinkled over the cheese before adding pepperoni slices.
Baked at 425°F for about 12 to 25 minutes, the pizza cooks until the cheese is melted and golden brown, and the bread edges become slightly crusty but remain tender inside. Optionally, the finished pizza can be garnished with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
For a crisper crust, the bread can be pre-baked for 5 minutes after applying herb butter, then topped and baked further. Leftover pizza keeps well when stored airtight in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and is best enjoyed warmed.
