French Dip Sandwiches

French Dip Sandwiches consist of sliced deli-style roast beef simmered in a savory broth made with beef consomme and onion soup mix, served on French rolls spread with cream cheese and topped with melted provolone cheese. The sandwich is accompanied by a cup of the flavorful au jus broth for dipping. The melted cheese and creamy spread enhance the tender beef, while the dipping sauce adds moistness and additional richness to each bite.

Description

This recipe for French Dip Sandwiches starts with simmering thinly sliced Italian-style roast beef in beef consomme mixed with onion soup seasoning. The beef absorbs the broth flavors in a gentle simmer, resulting in tender slices ready for assembly. French rolls are prepared by spreading cream cheese on the bottom halves and layering provolone or Swiss cheese on the top halves. The rolls are placed face-up on a baking sheet and briefly broiled until the cheese melts and bubbles. Then, roast beef is piled on the cream cheese spreads, topped with the melted cheese buns to complete the sandwich. The leftover beef broth, enriched by the onion soup mix and cooking juices, is ladled into small cups alongside the sandwiches for dipping, offering an extra moist and savory element. These sandwiches combine creamy, cheesy, and beefy flavors balanced by the dipping sauce, making them suitable for casual meals or gatherings where handheld food is preferred.
