This French toast casserole is everything you love about the classic breakfast, baked into a golden, custardy dish that’s perfect for feeding a crowd. Whether you prep it the night before or whip it up fresh, it’s a no-fuss way to make mornings extra special.

Ingredients
Casserole
- 14 ounces French bread
- ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 6 large eggs
- 1¾ cup whole milk
- ½ cup light brown sugar
Topping
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cold
- powdered sugar (optional)
- maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.
- Cut french bread into one inch cubes
- Heat bread on a baking sheet at 225 degrees for 12-15 minutes to dry it out.
- While bread is baking, prepare custard by whisking eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon, set aside
- Prepare topping by mixing brown sugar, cinnamon and salt together.
- Cut the butter into small cubes.
- Pull bread from oven and preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Transfer bread from baking sheet into a 9x13 inch cake pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
- Pour custard evenly over bread, sprinkle on the topping, then place the cubed butter over the top.
- Bake at 375 degrees F for 30 minutes.
- To serve sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup.
