Frozen Chicken Thighs in Air Fryer

  • pounds (680g) frozen chicken thighs 6 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
  • cup (93g) BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
  2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil.
  3. Add the frozen chicken thighs and cook for about 25 minutes depending on size until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F / 74 degrees C.
  4. Brush chicken with BBQ sauce and cook for 2 more minutes.
  5. Let the chicken rest for several minutes before serving.

Notes

  • To ensure that this recipe meets your dietary needs select a diet-friendly BBQ sauce. 
  • The frozen chicken thighs should be separated. If your chicken thighs are in a clump, run the frozen chicken thighs under cold water just until they separate. 
  • Cooking times are meant to be a guide. Adjust as needed depending on the size of your frozen chicken thighs. If they are on the larger side, cook them for 30 minutes or more. 
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil before adding the chicken thighs.
  • Leave space between the frozen chicken thighs in the air fryer basket so the hot air can circulate and cook the frozen chicken thighs evenly. 
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook chicken thighs in batches if necessary.
  • Always check for doneness with a meat thermometer. When inserted into the thickest part of the chicken, the temperature should be 165 degrees F / 74 degrees C.
  • Once the chicken thighs have reached the appropriate temperature, brush them with BBQ sauce and return them to the air fryer basket for a few minutes to set the sauce. 
  • Boneless chicken thighs will cook faster, so you will need to adjust the time of cooking boneless chicken thighs.
