Fruit Salad

This Fruit Salad combines a variety of fresh berries, kiwi, grapes, pineapple, mandarin oranges, and strawberries with a honey-lime dressing. The dressing, made with lime zest, juice, honey, and optionally orange-flavored liqueur, adds a bright sweet-tart flavor that complements the natural fruit sweetness. Tossing the fruit gently preserves the delicate textures while mixing the flavors, making it a refreshing and colorful fruit mix.

Description

The Fruit Salad recipe features a medley of fresh fruits including strawberries, grapes, kiwi, blackberries, raspberries, pineapple, and mandarin oranges. The dressing blends lime zest and juice with honey for a balanced sweet and citrusy coating. Optionally, a splash of Grand Marnier or Cointreau can be added to enrich the flavor with subtle orange notes.

Careful preparation ensures the fruit maintains its shape and texture — such as halving grapes and gently tossing to avoid bruising softer fruit like kiwi and berries. Refrigerating the salad for an hour or two allows the flavors to meld and the strawberries to release their juice, enhancing the overall texture and taste.

This fruit salad works well chilled and can be served on its own as a light dessert or refreshing side. Using fresh, quality fruit and a simple dressing highlights natural sweetness and acidity without overwhelming the fruit’s flavors. A touch of lime zest brightens the mix, while honey adds mild sweetness.

If adding bananas, include them shortly before serving to avoid discoloration. Mint leaves can be added as garnish or mixed in to add a herbal note. Lemon juice is a suitable substitute for lime for those who prefer its flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp lime zest
  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 2 cups grapes
  • 6 kiwi
  • 1 pint blackberry
  • 1 pint raspberry
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 1 cup mandarin orange sliced

Instructions

  1. Zest the lime into a bowl then squeeze in about two tablespoons of lime juice. Drizzle in t tablespoons of honey and whisk together until combined. I like to add 1/2 tablespoons of Grand Marnier or Cointreau to the dressing but this is optional.
  2. Cut the strawberries, kiwis, and pineapple pieces. Halve the grapes, and wash and dry the black berries and raspberries. Add all the fruit to a large bowl and drizzle with the honey lime dressing then toss gently.
  3. Cover the fruit salad and refrigerate. You can serve Immediately but the salad is excellent chilled and actually comes together after an hour or two as the strawberries release their juice.

Notes

  • Add bananas shortly before serving to prevent browning.
  • Optional splash of Grand Marnier or Cointreau enhances the dressing but can be left out for kids.
  • Handle delicate fruits gently to keep slices intact during tossing.
  • Mint leaves can be added for extra flavor, either whole as garnish or chopped into the salad.
  • Lime zest and juice can be swapped for lemon if preferred.
