Garlic Bok Choy

Garlic Bok Choy is a quick stir-fried vegetable dish that highlights crunchy baby bok choy sautéed with minced garlic and lightly salted. The method preserves the bright green color and crisp texture, resulting in a simple yet flavorful side that complements many meals.

Description

This dish involves trimming and cleaning baby bok choy, then stir-frying it on high heat with neutral oil and minced garlic. The garlic is cooked until aromatic before adding the bok choy, which is quickly tossed to maintain a tender-crisp texture and vibrant color.

A small amount of salt seasons the dish without overpowering the fresh vegetable flavor. The fast cooking time avoids overcooked, limp greens and keeps the bok choy leaves glossy rather than dull or darkened.

Garlic Bok Choy is a versatile, light vegetable side suitable for pairing with various Asian or general meals. The stir-fry technique enhances the natural sweetness of the bok choy with the savory garlic notes.

Avoid overcooking to retain texture and color. High heat is key to achieve a quick sauté without steaming the greens.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 oz (230g) baby bok choy rinsed and drained
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste

Instructions

How To Stir Fry Bok Choy

  1. Cut 1-inch off the bottom part of the stems. You can pull off the leaves. If the leaves are bigger, you can cut into halves or chop into pieces. If you have regular bok choy that is big, you can chop the stems and leafy part into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Heat up a wok, pan or skillet on high heat. Add the oil and when the oil is heated, add the garlic and stir-fry until aromatic.
  3. Add the bok choy and quickly stir-fry for a few times before adding the salt. Quickly stir-fry a few times, turn off the heat, dish out and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use high heat and stir-fry quickly to keep the bok choy crunchy and preserve its glossy green color.
  • Do not overcook to prevent the leaves from turning dark green or purple.
