Garlic Bread
Description
The recipe starts by combining softened unsalted butter with fresh minced garlic, parsley, salt, and garlic powder to make a flavorful spread. This is applied to halved French or Italian bread. The bread halves are initially cooked in a foil packet on the grill with the buttered side down. This causes the butter and garlic to infuse into the bread while steaming it slightly.
After five minutes, the packet is opened, and the bread is flipped to buttered side up. A mixture of shredded Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses is added on top. The foil remains open while the bread cooks for an additional 4-5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and edges to brown under the grill lid. The finished product is sliced, garnished with more parsley, and served warm.
Alternatively, the garlic bread can be baked in a 350˚F oven by following a similar foil-wrapped method to infuse flavors and melting the cheese under the broiler for a final crisp topping. The combination of melted butter, garlic, fresh herbs, and cheeses creates a rich, savory bread suitable as a side or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 16 oz French bread or Italian bread
- 1/2 cup butter softened, unsalted
- 1/4 tsp salt sea salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 2 garlic large) finely minced, cloves
- 1/4 cup parsley plus more to garnish, fresh, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese shredded
- 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- 1 Reynolds WrapⓇ Non-Stick Foil
Instructions
- In a bowl combine: 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup parsley, 1/4 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp of garlic powder and finely minced garlic. Mash together with a fork. In a separate bowl combine the parmesan and mozzarella cheese.
- Cut your loaf of French bread in half length wise and spread the butter mixture on the inside of each half. Place bread buttered-side-down on a large sheet of foil and fold over the foil creating a pack and sealing the edges. Place foil pack on the grill buttered side down, cover the grill with the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
- Carefully open the foil. Flip the halves over with tongs and sprinkle the cheese mixture on top. Do not close the foil pack. Cover the grill and continue to cook for another 4-5 minutes to melt the cheese. Remove from the grill, slice bread, garnish with parsley and serve warm (*See baking instructions in notes).
Notes
- To make in the oven, bake the foil-wrapped bread at 350˚F for 10 minutes, then unwrap, add cheese on top, and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese melts and edges brown.
- Use fresh garlic for the best aromatic flavor in the butter mixture.
- Serve garlic bread warm to enjoy the melted cheese and soft bread texture.
