Garlic Bread
Description
To make this garlic bread, softened unsalted butter is combined with grated Parmesan, minced garlic, and fresh herbs including parsley and chives, along with salt and black pepper to season. This mixture is evenly applied to the two halves of a French bread loaf cut lengthwise. Baking the bread cut side up on a tray at 350˚F gently melts the butter and toasts the bread's surface. A final brief broil adds a golden, slightly crisp finish without drying out the interior.
The bread combines a crisp toasted crust with a tender and fluffy interior layered with a flavorful garlic butter that melts into every bite. The Parmesan adds a subtle savory note, complementing the fresh herbs for balance.
This garlic bread pairs well with pastas, salads, and soups or can be served as a snack or side dish. It is best sliced crosswise after baking to maintain moisture and allow for even butter distribution during cooking.
Storing the prepared garlic butter as a log wrapped in plastic wrap allows for convenient later use. It can be refrigerated for up to five days or frozen for up to three months, with thawing recommended before spreading and baking.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter unsalted, softened
- 3 tablespoons Parmesan Cheese grated
- 2 tablespoons parsley minced
- 1 tablespoon chives thinly sliced
- 4 garlic minced cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 loaf French bread sliced in half lengthwise
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350˚F.
- Combine butter, Parmesan, parsley, chives, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Stir together until fully mixed together.
- Spread butter mixture evenly over both cut sides of the loaf of bread.
- Place both halves of bread, cut side up, onto a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes. Then broil for 30 seconds, just to get the tops slightly browned and crisp.
- Remove garlic bread from oven, slice crosswise into 2 inch thick pieces and serve.
Notes
- Store prepared garlic butter rolled tightly in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze wrapped in foil for up to 3 months to preserve freshness.
- Thaw frozen butter overnight in the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before spreading for best consistency.
- Use a large French loaf for a crusty exterior and soft, fluffy interior ideal for absorbing the garlic butter.
- Do not slice or score the bread halves before baking to ensure even butter distribution and prevent butter leakage onto the baking sheet.
