Garlic Butter Pasta Recipe
Description
This Garlic Butter Pasta Recipe begins with boiling pasta until al dente, reserving some cooking water to adjust the sauce consistency. The garlic butter sauce is developed by gently cooking sliced garlic in butter, followed by minced garlic for a layered garlic flavor without burning. After tossing the cooked pasta with this fragrant butter sauce, grated Parmesan cheese and parsley add savory depth and freshness. Adding reserved pasta water helps create a light sauce that clings to the noodles without heaviness.
The dish offers a balance of browned garlic taste and buttery richness with a slight peppery note, complemented by the salty Parmesan and herbaceous parsley. The mixing of sliced and minced garlic provides a blend of texture and aroma in the sauce.
This pasta is intended as a side dish and pairs well with proteins or vegetables. Serving approximately 2 ounces of pasta per serving keeps portions moderate.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces dried pasta
- 6 cloves garlic
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- ¼ cup parsley minced
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook according to the package directions. Remove 1 cup of pasta water from the pot then drain the pasta then return it to the pot.
- While the water is heating, make the garlic butter sauce. Mince 3 cloves of the garlic and slice the other 3 cloves.
- Heat the butter in a small pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook for 2 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the salt and pepper.
- After you return the pasta to the pot, pour the garlic butter sauce over the pasta and toss well to coat. Add the parmesan cheese and a splash of the pasta water and toss the pasta again. Add just enough pasta water so that it creates a light sauce - you likely won't use it all. Mix in the minced parsley then serve it right away.
Notes
- This pasta works best served immediately as a side dish to accompany main courses.
- Use fresh garlic cloves to maximize flavor in the butter sauce.
- The reserved pasta water is used sparingly to create a light sauce consistency.
