Garlic Herb Turkey and Cheddar Sliders
Description
Garlic Herb Turkey and Cheddar Sliders start with slicing Hawaiian rolls horizontally to create two layers. The bottom layer is spread with honey mustard, layered with deli turkey breast and cheddar cheese slices, then topped with the roll tops. A garlic butter mix made from melted butter, garlic powder or minced garlic, and dried parsley is brushed generously over the assembled sliders, allowing flavor to seep around and beneath the rolls.
Baked at 350 degrees, the sliders heat through and the cheese melts into the turkey and rolls. The sweet rolls contrast with the savory turkey and sharp cheddar, while the garlic butter adds richness and herbiness. This dish is easy to make in batches and serves well for gatherings or casual meals.
They can be served immediately out of the oven as handheld sandwiches. Optional pickle chips can be added for a crunchy tangy bite. Leftover sliders reheat well in the oven or microwave, though oven reheating keeps the rolls softer and more flavorful.
Ingredients
Sliders:
- (1) count hawaiian rolls sweet
- 2 Tablespoons honey mustard spread
- 1 lb. turkey breast deli
- 8 to 12 lices cheddar cheese
Garlic Butter:
- 4 Tablespoons butter melted, salted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 garlic cloves, minced)
- 1 teaspoon parsley dried
Optional:
- pickle chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove the entire 12-count block of Hawaiian rolls from the package in one piece. Use a long, serrated bread knife to cut them horizontally into two layers. Place the bottom layer on a foil-lined or lightly greased baking pan (9x13 or cookie sheet often works best). I suggest spraying the foil with non-stick cooking spray.
- Spread about 2 Tablespoons of honey mustard mixture over the cut side of the bottom layer of rolls. Layer half of the deli turkey evenly over the honey mustard.Top the turkey with cheddar cheese slices, arranging them so that each slider will have cheese on it.Repeat with the remaining turkey and cheddar cheese. Place the top layer of rolls over the cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic (or garlic powder) and dried parsley. Use a pastry brush to generously brush the garlic butter mixture all over the tops of the rolls. Let the butter drip down the sides and on the bottom of the rolls.
- Cover the sliders with aluminum foil (spray the side that will be touching the rolls with non-stick cooking spray) for the first 15 minutes. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 18-24 minutes total, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops are lightly golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes. If you are adding pickles, add them after the sliders are baked. Use a sharp knife to cut the sliders. Serve warm.
Notes
- Reheat sliders in a 300-degree oven for about 10 minutes until cheese melts again for best texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in foil and refrigerate up to 3 days.
- Honey mustard, deli turkey, cheddar cheese, and Hawaiian rolls can be varied based on preference but the balance of sweet, savory, and cheesy is key.
