Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks

Report
These Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks combine a soft, tender dough twisted into individual sticks with a flavorful garlic and herb seasoning topped with powdered Parmesan cheese. The use of warm water and instant yeast produces a well-risen dough with a slight chew, while the seasoning blend adds aromatic herbs and a savory bite. The breadsticks bake on a butter-coated rimmed baking sheet, allowing the bottoms to develop a rich flavor and texture. This recipe is suited for serving as a side or appetizer, offering a savory, aromatic bread option.

Description

Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks are crafted from a yeast dough that is kneaded until soft and slightly sticky, then allowed to rest before being shaped into twisted strips. The baking sheet is prepared with melted butter to contribute to a flavorful base and slight crispness on the bottom of each breadstick. A seasoning mixture featuring powdered Parmesan, garlic powder, and dried herbs such as oregano, basil, and parsley is sprinkled on top, infusing each stick with savory and aromatic qualities.

The breadsticks bake at a moderate temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing them to develop a golden exterior while maintaining a tender crumb inside. This combination of texture and taste makes them ideal for accompanying meals, dipping into sauces, or serving alongside salads and soups.

Timing the rise and shaping of the dough carefully ensures consistent texture and avoids excessive stickiness. Using the powdered Parmesan in the seasoning helps distribute flavor uniformly across each breadstick.

Ingredients

Servings

Breadsticks

  • 1 ½ cups water 105 to 110 degrees F°, warm
  • 1 Tablespoon instant yeast
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter salted, melted

Garlic Parmesan Seasoning

  • Parmesan Cheese powdered, 1/2 cup
  • kosher salt 1 teaspoon
  • garlic powder 2 tablespoons
  • oregano dried, 2 teaspoons
  • basil dried, 2 teaspoons
  • parsley dried, 2 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. In an electric stand mixer; with the dough hook attachment, mix together the warm water, yeast, sugar, salt and one cup of the flour.
  2. Continue adding the flour until the dough clears the sides of the bowl; knead for about three minutes. It should be soft and slightly sticky without leaving a lot of residue on your fingers.
  3. Let the dough rest in the bowl for 10 minutes. While the dough rests, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Pour the melted butter onto a large, rimmed baking sheet (about 11X17-inches); spreading out evenly.
  4. On a lightly greased countertop, pat the dough out into a long rectangle, about 16x7-inches. Cut the dough into 12 even strips with a pizza cutter. Twist each strip of dough then place side-by-side (a 1/2-inch apart) on the baking sheet.

Garlic Parmesan Seasoning:

  1. Mix together all of the seasoning ingredients. Sprinkle as much or as little seasoning as you desire, all over the tops of the breadsticks. Cover with a kitchen towel, and let breadsticks rise for 20 minutes.
  2. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden. Carefully remove from oven. Let breadsticks cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
