German Chocolate Brownies

German Chocolate Brownies combine rich cocoa and a blend of oil and butter with sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, and salt to create a dense chocolate brownie base. Topped with a classic German chocolate frosting of brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg yolks, evaporated milk, vanilla, chopped pecans, and shredded sweetened coconut, these brownies offer a moist, chewy texture with a sweet, nutty, and coconut-flavored topping.

Description

The brownie batter starts by mixing oil into cocoa powder, followed by softened butter, then sugar for sweetness. Eggs are added individually to emulsify while vanilla extract lends aroma. Flour and salt are folded in to form a rich, dense batter poured into a greased 9x13 pan and baked until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, ensuring a fully baked but moist crumb.

The topping is prepared on the stove by combining sugars, butter, egg yolks, and evaporated milk, cooking to a low boil while stirring until thickened. Once removed from heat, vanilla extract, chopped pecans, and shredded sweetened coconut are mixed in, creating a textured and flavor-packed frosting with nuts and coconut.

After the brownies cool completely, the frosting is spread evenly, adding a signature German chocolate flavor component marking a twist on traditional brownies. These brownies are well suited as a dessert or special treat blending fudgy chocolate with a sweet coconut-pecan topping.
