Ginger Garlic Baked Salmon

Ginger Garlic Baked Salmon is marinated in a mixture of fresh ginger, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, white pepper, and salt, then baked until the surface develops a brown, slightly charred finish. The marinade blends savory, sweet, and pungent flavors, creating a richly seasoned salmon with a tender, flaky texture.

Description

Fresh salmon pieces are rinsed and patted dry before being rubbed with chopped ginger and garlic. They are then coated with a marinade combining soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, white pepper, and salt. This mixture imparts a balance of umami, sweetness, and subtle heat from the ginger and garlic.

After marinating for at least 30 minutes or up to two hours refrigerated, the salmon is baked at 375°F on a greased foil-lined cookie sheet. Baking continues until the surface browns or chars lightly, signaling caramelization of the marinade.

This salmon pairs well with steamed rice, contributing a hearty and flavorful main dish. The combination of seasonings provides depth and a slightly sticky coating that enhances the fish’s natural richness.

If the ginger or garlic burn during baking, scraping off the burned bits before serving improves the taste and texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb (500g) salmon cut into 2-3 pieces
  • 1 piece ginger peeled and chopped (2-inch/5cm)
  • 5 cloves garlic peeled and chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 3 dashes white pepper
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the salmon and pat it dry with paper towels. Add the ginger and garlic to the salmon and gently rub them in. Add the remaining ingredients, stirring to coat the salmon evenly with all the seasonings.
  2. Set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably for 2 hours in the fridge.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a cookie sheet with greased aluminum foil and place the salmon on it. Bake for 15 minutes in the middle of the oven, or until the surface turns brown or slightly charred. Serve warm with rice.

Notes

  • Scrape off any burned ginger or garlic from the salmon surface to prevent bitterness when serving.
