Gingerbread Man Cookies
Description
The dough for these Gingerbread Man Cookies is made by creaming softened butter with sugar, molasses, and egg, then gradually incorporating a spiced flour mixture with ginger, allspice, and nutmeg. Rolling out to a quarter-inch thickness and cutting with cookie cutters provides consistent shapes for baking at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Cooling completely is important before decorating.
The royal icing uses egg whites, cream of tartar, vanilla, and powdered sugar whipped to stiff peaks for piping details. Black gel coloring provides features like eyes and mouths, while additional decorations like sprinkles add festive detail. The icing needs around an hour to dry and set properly before handling.
These cookies deliver a familiar ginger-spiced flavor with a slightly crisp edge and tender center. They're well-suited for gifting, holiday parties, or display and can be stored after drying to maintain their texture and decoration.
