Gingerbread Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. In a heavy bottom saucepan, combine the cream, butter, sugar, molasses and vanilla extract.
  2. Heat to a low boil, stirring with a wooden spoon. Whisk in the ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves until evenly divided.
  3. Reduce to simmer and continue to stir until it thickens (about 5-10 minutes). Right before removing from the heat, stir in the baking soda until dissolved.
  4. Serve immediately or allow to cool and refrigerate.
