Ginisang Sayote with Chicken
Report
Chayote Guisado with Chicken is a quick and simple vegetable dish flavored with tomatoes, and oyster sauce. It's nutritious, delicious, and budget-friendly, too!

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 onion, peeled and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thigh meat, cut into ½-inch pieces
- 2 Roma tomatoes, chopped
- 1 ½ cups water
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 4 sayote, peeled, cored, quartered and sliced on a bias
- salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
- In a wide pan over medium heat, heat oil. Add onions and garlic and cook until softened.
- Add chicken and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned.
- Add tomatoes and cook until softened and release juices.
- Add water and bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover, and continue to cook until chicken is cooked through and liquid is reduced to about 1 cup.
- Add oyster sauce and stir until well-dispersed.
- Add sayote and cook until tender yet crisp.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
Notes
- Sayote has a sticky resin that can irritate the skin. Use gloves when peeling and cutting. Or slice off the top of the sayote and rub on the cut part in a circular motion for about 30 seconds. The transparent sap/liquid will turn into a white, foam-like consistency to remove the stickiness.
- It's best enjoyed tender yet crisp. Take it out of the heat before it's fully tender as it'll continue to cook and soften in the residual heat.
