Gluten Free Apple Crisp
Description
The apple filling consists of peeled, chopped apples tossed with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice to enhance flavor and prevent browning. The topping is prepared by mixing brown sugar, gluten-free old-fashioned rolled oats, gluten-free all-purpose flour, cinnamon, and cold unsalted butter, which is crumbled into the mixture by hand to create a coarse texture.
After assembling, the crisp is baked at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes until the topping is golden and the apples are fork tender and bubbling underneath. A variety of apples such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Macintosh can be combined for optimal texture and flavor.
Leftovers should be refrigerated and consumed within four days. The recipe highlights using gluten-free oats rather than quick or instant oats to maintain the topping's structure and texture.
