Golden Oreo Truffles (Birthday Cake Truffles)

Golden Oreo Truffles are bite-sized treats made by blending crushed Golden Oreo cookies with softened cream cheese and rainbow sprinkles, then coating the chilled mixture balls in a smooth white chocolate and vegetable oil glaze. Additional crushed Golden Oreos and sprinkles provide decorative and textural toppings. These truffles combine creamy, crunchy, and sweet elements in each bite.

Description

This recipe starts by processing Golden Oreos including their creme filling into fine crumbs. Softened cream cheese is then blended in until the mixture becomes smooth and holds together, with rainbow sprinkles folded in for a festive appearance. The mixture is shaped into tablespoon-sized balls placed on parchment and frozen until firm, which eases dipping.

White chocolate is melted using a double boiler or microwave and combined with vegetable oil to ensure a smooth and glossy coating. The chilled truffle balls are dipped into this coating, then returned to parchment to set. Additional crushed Golden Oreos and sprinkles can be added while the coating is wet for extra decoration and crunchy texture. The process results in truffles that are creamy inside with a white chocolate outer shell.

These truffles can be prepared ahead by making the Oreo/cream cheese mixture one day early and storing it covered in the fridge. Finished truffles keep well in an airtight container refrigerated for up to two weeks or can be frozen up to 3 months. Thawing should be done slowly at room temperature to preserve texture.

Ingredients

Servings

For the filling:

  • 36 Golden Oreo cookie 15oz or 400g
  • 8 oz cream cheese 225g, Philadelphia brand, softened
  • 3 tablespoon Rainbow sprinkles 45 g

For topping:

  • 12 oz white chocolate chips 300g, or buttons, or melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 6 golden Oreo cookies crushed
  • Rainbow sprinkles extra

Instructions

  1. Place all the Oreo cookings for the filling, creme center and all, into the bowl of a food processor. Process until fine crumbs form.
  2. Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs, and pulse until combined and smooth.
  3. Add the sprinkles and use a spatula to fold them in. Scoop out little 1 tablespoon size balls of this mixture, and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. You can use your hands, a spoon, or a small cookie scoop.
  4. Freeze these Oreo balls for 15 minutes or until set and hard, this will make it much easier to coat them.
  5. Meanwhile, while the Oreo truffles are in the freezer, melt the white chocolate in a double boiler until smooth. Stir constantly to avoid it burning. Off the stove, mix the vegetable oil into the white chocolate until smooth.
  6. Remove the Oreo truffles from the freezer, and dip in the melted chocolate using a spoon or fork until completely coated, then remove and let the excess chocolate drip off. Return to the parchment paper lined baking sheet, and immediately sprinkle some Oreo crumbs and sprinkles on top.
  7. Allow the chocolates to set on the baking sheet before enjoying. Store any leftovers in the fridge!

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to ensure easier mixing with Oreo crumbs.
  • Melting white chocolate can be done in a microwave on low with frequent stirring to avoid burning.
  • Prepare the Oreo and cream cheese mixture up to one day in advance; store tightly covered in the fridge.
  • Store finished truffles in an airtight container refrigerated for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • When freezing, thaw truffles individually at room temperature before serving.
  • Golden Oreos provide a different flavor than regular; regular Oreos can be substituted as desired.
