Graham Cookie Bars
Description
This Graham Cookie Bars recipe uses crushed graham crackers combined with semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, nuts, and a pinch of salt, all bound by sweetened condensed milk. The mixture is thoroughly stirred, pressed into a buttered baking pan, and baked at 350°F until golden and set. After baking, cooling is essential to allow the bars to firm up before cutting into squares. An optional dusting of powdered sugar adds extra sweetness and presentation appeal.
The resulting bars have a chewy, dense texture from the condensed milk and a combination of crunchy nuts and melty chocolate and butterscotch chips. This recipe requires no leavening or eggs, relying on the condensed milk and baking time for structure. Homemade graham cracker crumbs can be made by finely grinding crackers in a processor or with a rolling pin.
Bars store well at room temperature in an airtight container and last several days. Refrigeration extends freshness and freezing enables longer storage. They make a convenient sweet snack or dessert.
