Grand Floridian Chocolate Chip Cookies
Description
These chocolate chip cookies mix flour, baking soda, and salt with a butter and sugar base for a textured dough that bakes into rich, thick cookies. The light brown and powdered sugars create a gentle sweetness and soft crumb, enhanced by two eggs and vanilla extract for moisture and flavor. Semi-sweet chocolate chips are folded in for bursts of chocolate throughout.
The dough is portioned into 2–3 tablespoon balls and baked at 330°F, a temperature chosen to gently bake the cookies while maintaining softness. Baking time varies depending on cookie size, ranging from 10 to 17 minutes; longer baking gives firmer cookies while retaining thickness. Cooling before serving helps cookies set properly.
These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to five days at room temperature. Dough or baked cookies can be frozen, and frozen dough can be baked directly with additional bake time. Adjust baking time to suit desired cookie firmness.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 10 tbsp butter softened, salted
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 2 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 12 oz chocolate chips semi-sweet
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 330 degrees then prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. Set aside for later.
- In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Then in a bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed mix together the butter, brown sugar, and powdered sugar until the mix is light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time then mix again until the eggs are fully mixed in. Then add the vanilla and mix again. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Add in the flour mixture 1/2 cup at a time until all of the flour has been added. Stir in the chocolate chips with a wooden spoon.
- Next scoop 2-3 tablespoon balls of dough onto the baking sheet.
- Put the balls of dough into the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. If using a large cookie scoop, bake the cookies for 14 to 17 minutes.
- Let cookies cool then serve.
Notes
- Set oven to 325°F if 330°F is unavailable for similar baking results.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days.
- Dough balls or baked cookies can be frozen for up to three months; bake dough from frozen by adding two minutes to baking time.
- Increase baking time by two minutes for firmer, less chewy cookies while maintaining thickness.
