Grandma's Old Fashioned Fruit Salad with Mayonnaise

Grandma's Old Fashioned Fruit Salad blends a variety of diced fruits like apples, pears, peaches, bananas, grapes, and optional pineapple and orange. The salad is moistened with a combination of whipped heavy cream and a small amount of mayonnaise, then sweetened with chocolate chips. This results in a creamy and fruity salad with varied textures and gentle sweetness.

Description

This traditional fruit salad combines multiple fresh or canned fruits, cut into bite-sized pieces to create a mixed salad characterized by its creamy dressing made by folding whipped heavy cream with mayonnaise. The fruit choices are flexible, allowing fresh or drained canned varieties depending on preference and availability. The mayonnaise lightly coats the fruits without overwhelming them, while the whipped cream adds volume and smoothness.

Chocolate chips folded into the salad contribute bursts of sweetness and a contrasting texture, complementing the natural fruit flavors. The salad is chilled before serving, enhancing the refreshing quality and allowing flavors to blend. It can be garnished with extra chocolate chips or grape slices for presentation.

Fruit preparation instructs cutting all fruits into uniform, bite-sized pieces and optionally treating apples with lemon juice or extra mayonnaise to prevent browning. This layered, creamy fruit salad is suitable as a dessert, potluck offering, or a classic side dish. It keeps well refrigerated and can be made in advance.

  2. Decide which fruits you wish to include in this amazing fruit salad.
  3. Wash, peel and chop fruit into bite sized pieces. Place into large mixing bowl.
