Greek Lamb Tacos with Tzatziki Sauce
Description
These Greek Lamb Tacos begin by cooking finely diced onion in olive oil until softened, then adding chopped oregano and garlic for aromatic flavor. Ground lamb is browned and seasoned with salt and pepper, providing a rich, savory filling. The homemade tzatziki sauce is prepared by draining grated cucumber to remove excess moisture, then combining it with Greek yogurt, minced garlic, fresh dill, lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. This sauce adds a cool, tangy contrast to the spiced lamb.
The tacos are assembled by spreading tzatziki sauce on warmed flour tortillas, then layering the lamb mixture, diced cucumber, fresh tomato, red onion, and crumbled feta cheese. The combination yields a soft yet textured taco with savory meat and fresh, creamy toppings. Alternative protein options like ground beef can be used for a different flavor or budget consideration. Pre-prepared store-bought tzatziki sauce can substitute the homemade version to save time.

Instructions
- To cook the lamb: Heat the olive oil (2 tablespoons) in a nonstick skillet and cook the yellow onion over medium-high heat until softened and beginning to brown (about 2 minutes). In a small bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt (1 cup), 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 minced small clove of garlic, fresh chopped dil (1 tablespoon)l, and lemon juice (1 tablespoon). Add the cucumbers and stir.
- To assemble the tacos: Spread 1/4 cup of the tzatziki sauce on each tortilla, followed by 1/4 of the lamb mixture, and the diced cucumber, fresh tomatoes, and red onion divided evenly. Finish with 1 oz. of crumbled feta on each taco.
- Serve immediately, wrapped in foil or held together with a toothpick if desired.
Notes
- When preparing tzatziki, squeezing out excess water from grated cucumber is important to prevent watery sauce.
- Store-bought tzatziki can be used as a convenient alternative to homemade sauce.
- Ground beef can replace lamb for a more budget-friendly option without drastically changing the dish.
- Nutrition information excludes added sodium, optional ingredients, and brand variations; adjust seasoning as needed.
