Greek Turkey Burgers (Air Fryer, Grill, Stovetop)
Description
This recipe blends ground turkey with crumbled feta cheese, dill, lemon juice, garlic, diced red onion, and seasoning. Breadcrumbs help maintain patty structure, while the mixture is gently combined to avoid tough burgers. The thumb indentation in each patty reduces rising during cooking.
The cooking methods include stovetop sautéing, grilling, or air frying, providing crispy exterior while the interior remains tender. The flavor profile pairs the tang of feta and lemon with the earthiness of cumin and dill, perfectly complemented by accompaniments like lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, and tzatziki sauce on buns or lettuce wraps.
To accommodate dietary needs, dairy-free feta and gluten-free breadcrumbs can be substituted without altering the core preparation techniques or flavor balance.
Ingredients
Greek Burgers:
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup red onion finely diced or shredded, 80g
- 1.25 lb. ground turkey 93/7
- 1/3 cup feta cheese 45g
- 1/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs 28g
- 1/4 cup dill chopped, fresh
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 3/4 tsp cumin ground
- 1 tsp salt a few cracks black pepper
- 1 tsp black pepper a few cracks black pepper
To Assemble:
- Hamburger Bun or lettuce wraps
- onion sliced, red
- butter lettuce
- tomato sliced
- tzatziki or store-bought
Instructions
- Heat olive oil over medium heat. When shiny, add the garlic and onion and saute for 2-3 minutes until tender. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly while you gather everything else.
- In a large bowl, add the ground turkey, feta cheese, breadcrumbs, chopped dill, lemon juice, cumin, salt and pepper. Mix the ingredients together with your hands until well combined (be careful not to overwork the meat).
- Divide mixture into five even parts then shape into 1/4 - 1/2-inch patties with your hands.
- Press your thumb into the middle part of the burger to create a divot (so it doesn't puff up in the middle when it cooks). Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes if time allows.
- To Cook - 3 options:*Stovetop: Grease skillet and set to medium heat. When hot, add the burgers and cook for 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook for 3-4 minutes or until burgers are cooked through.*Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375F. Spray the basket with cooking spray. Add patties in a single layer (in batches if necessary) and air fry for 10-11 minutes, flipping halfway, or until internal temperature is 165F.*Grill: Grease grill grates to prevent sticking. Set the grill to medium heat and cook burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side or until cooked through.
- Serve on a bun (or lettuce wrap for lower carb) with red onions, tomato, lettuce and tzatziki.
Notes
- Substitute dairy-free feta cheese to make the burgers dairy-free.
- Use gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.
