Green Goddess Tuna Melt Tartines

Green Goddess Tuna Melt Tartines combine creamy avocado-herb dressing with tuna, peppery arugula, and melted havarti cheese on toasted multigrain bread. The green goddess dressing blends avocado, yogurt, mayonnaise, garlic, and fresh herbs for a bright, rich spread that enhances the savory tuna topping. Brief broiling melts the cheese just enough, keeping the toasts moist yet crisp. These tartines make a satisfying lunch or light dinner with fresh, layered textures and balanced flavors.

Description

This recipe features a green goddess dressing made from avocado, Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, and a mix of fresh herbs such as arugula, parsley, basil, and chives. The dressing has a creamy yet herbaceous quality that adds brightness to the dish. Mixed with canned tuna and fresh arugula, it creates a flavorful tuna salad with peppery undertones.

The tartines are assembled on toasted multigrain bread spread with the green goddess mixture, topped with the tuna-arugula blend, and finished with shredded havarti cheese. A quick broil melts the cheese, adding a creamy texture contrast while keeping the bread crisp. The result is a layered open-faced sandwich combining creamy, tangy, and savory elements.

These tartines work well served immediately, paired with potato chips or a light salad. They offer a fresh take on a tuna melt, incorporating green herbs and avocado for complexity and nutrition without heaviness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 avocado
  • 2/3 cup yogurt I like full fat or 2%, plain, Greek
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup arugula baby greens
  • ¼ cup parsley chopped
  • 1/4 cup basil chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chives snipped
  • ½ lemon juiced
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 5 ounces tuna canned/packaged in water
  • 1 cup arugula baby greens
  • 2 to 3 ounces havarti cheese freshly grated
  • 4 lices multigrain bread toasted

Instructions

  1. Add the avocado, yogurt, mayo, garlic, arugula, herbs, chives, lemon juice, salt and pepper to a food processor and blend until combined. You want the mixture to be creamy and spreadable!
  2. To make the melts, add the tuna to a large bowl. Add the baby arugula. Add about 1/4 cup green goddess dressing to start and toss the mixture together until everything is combined.
  3. Spread a spoonful of the green goddess dressing on each piece of toast. Top with the tuna mixture. Top each with about 1/2 ounce of havarti cheese. Heat the broiler in the oven to high and place the tuna toasts under for just 1 to 2 minutes, until the cheese is melty. Serve immediately with potato chips or whatever side you'd like!
