Grilled Ahi Tuna Salad

With an Asian-inspired marinade and salad dressing, Grilled Ahi Tuna Salad is a flavorful and healthy dish that works for lunch or dinner.  Ready in an hour (most of that for marinating), it’s even a practical after work meal.

  • 1 pound ahi tuna four 4-6 ounce steaks, sashimi grade, steaks
  • 2 Tablespoons rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 head lettuce washed and torn into bite size pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons scallions chopped
  • radish sliced, sesame seeds optional garnish

Marinade

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons garlic scapes or scallions, chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon ginger grated, fresh
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine marinade ingredients in bowl and mix well. Remove 2 Tablespoons and reserve for the salad dressing
  2. Put ahi in shallow dish and pour marinade over ahi steaks. Cover and refrigerate 1-2 hours, turning steaks over once.
  3. Preheat grill or grill pan. Grill ahi steaks over medium-high heat, 2 minutes on each side for rare.
  4. While steaks are grilling, mix rice wine vinegar with reserved (unused) marinade to make the salad dressing. Divide lettuce between four plates and top with chopped scallions. Drizzle with salad dressing.
  5. When steaks have reached your desired doneness, remove and slice on a diagonal. Layer alongside salad and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Tip: My market puts the tuna steaks out in the seafood case, but they also have them individually sealed and frozen in the back. I ask for the frozen steaks so I can have them whenever I want them.
