Using skewers makes them easy to turn and serve. This dish suits summer cookouts or a flavorful protein addition to meals.

Description

The Grilled BBQ Shrimp recipe starts with peeled and deveined shrimp tossed in a mixture of BBQ sauce, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to infuse flavor. After marinating, the shrimp are threaded onto skewers for easy grilling, with wooden skewers soaked beforehand to prevent burning. Cooking over a medium-high grill for about two minutes per side with additional BBQ sauce brushing ensures a lightly charred exterior and juicy interior. This method avoids overcooking, which can make shrimp tough. The finished shrimp carry smoky, savory notes complemented by the tangy BBQ sauce. This preparation suits casual meals and pairs well with grilled vegetables or rice. The recipe also includes oven broiling instructions if a grill is unavailable, and provides guidance on storing leftovers in airtight containers for up to three days with gentle reheating recommended to preserve texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb Shrimp peeled and deveined
  • cup BBQ sauce I love Stubb’s sugar-free
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ - 1 teaspoon salt based on taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. You can also use an indoor grill pan. Make sure to lightly grease your grill by spraying or dipping paper towels in oil and spreading them across the grill.
  2. Add the shrimp to a large mixing bowl along with 3 tablespoon of BBQ sauce, olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Save the rest of the BBQ sauce to brush onto the shrimp later.
  3. Thread 5 to 6 shrimp onto each grilling skewer. If using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes, so they do not burn on the grill.
  4. Grill the shrimp for about 2 minutes on the first side. Flip and brush the grilled side with extra bbq sauce.
  5. Grill the second side for an additional 2 - 3 minutes. Once done, remove from the grill and brush both sides again with the remaining bbq sauce. NOTE: Shrimp cook quickly, so make sure you don’t overcook them, or they will be rubbery and tough.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • If grilling with wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning on the grill.
  • Use medium-high heat for quick cooking to keep shrimp tender and avoid rubberiness.
  • If grilled shrimp are leftover, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat grilled shrimp in the microwave off the skewer for 30 to 60 seconds to retain moisture.
  • As an alternative to grilling, shrimp skewers can be broiled in the oven on a lined baking sheet, flipping after 2–3 minutes per side.
