Grilled Pizza
Description
The Grilled Pizza recipe begins by preheating the grill to a high temperature around 400°F, which helps produce a crisp crust. Pizza sauce is spread over premade 12-inch crusts, followed by shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and pepperoni slices. The assembled pizza is carefully placed directly on the grill grate, either slid off a cutting board or an inverted pizza pan.
The grill cover is closed for 6-10 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt thoroughly and the crust to brown and crisp on the bottom. This grilling imparts a slightly smoky taste and a texture contrast between a moist, cheesy top and a crunchy, grilled base.
Once cooked, the pizza is removed from the grill, sliced, and can be garnished with fresh basil leaves or other preferred toppings. It makes a fun alternative to oven-baked pizza, especially in warm weather or outdoor cooking settings.
Ingredients
- 4 pizza crust premade, 12 inch
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (shredded)
- 4 ounces pepperoni
- basil optional, fresh leaves
- and any additional pizza toppings you want!
Instructions
- Preheat a grill. My gas grill has a thermometer on the lid, so I preheat it to 400, the high temp will give your pizza the crispy bottom crust.
- Spread pizza sauce onto the pizza crust.
- Add cheese and pepperoni and place directly onto the grill grate. I use a large cutting board to slide mine onto the grill.
- You can also use a pizza pan, turn it upside down, place your crust on it and slide your pizza off of the pan onto the grill.
- Close the cover and grill for 6-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is brown on the bottom.
- Remove from grill and slice. Serve with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
- Preheat the grill to a high temperature to achieve a crispy bottom crust.
- Use a large cutting board or upside-down pizza pan to slide the pizza onto the grill safely.
- You can add fresh basil or other toppings after grilling for extra flavor.
- This recipe is a fun twist on traditional homemade pizza, suitable for feeding families or small groups.
