Grinch Cookies
Description
The Grinch Cookies recipe offers two methods: one using store-bought cake mix, the other made fully from scratch. The key ingredient in both is the green food coloring added to create the signature hue associated with the Grinch character. The cake mix method combines vanilla cake mix with melted butter, oil, eggs, and vanilla and almond extracts, forming a soft dough refrigerated before shaping. Baking at 375°F for 8-9 minutes produces soft cookies that set as they cool.
The scratch recipe uses all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, and butter with the same flavorings, resulting in a butter-rich dough similarly shaped and baked. Both versions rely on gentle baking to maintain a soft interior and crinkled top. Pressing heart-shaped sprinkles into warm cookies adds a festive touch.
These cookies are suitable for holiday gift-giving or festive occasions and can be rolled in powdered sugar before serving to add sweetness and a snowy effect. The recipe accommodates larger batches by scaling easily.
For best results, ingredients should be at room temperature, and dough can be chilled to help cookies keep shape. Measuring flour properly and monitoring bake time prevents undercooking or overbaking. Silicone mats can be used instead of parchment paper for baking.
