Hibiscus Syrup Recipe
Description
Hibiscus Syrup starts by boiling water with honey or sugar to dissolve the sweetener fully. Once removed from heat, dried hibiscus flowers are added, steeping until the liquid cools to allow infusion of the floral and tart notes typical of hibiscus. After steeping for at least 30 minutes, the syrup is strained to remove flower solids, resulting in a clear, brightly colored liquid.
The syrup balances sweetness with the hibiscus’ natural tartness, making it suitable for mixing into drinks, cocktails, or drizzling over desserts. It retains its flavor and quality when refrigerated, lasting up to one month. This straightforward syrup preparation emphasizes natural ingredients and simple technique for a distinct, floral flavor profile.
Use the syrup chilled or at room temperature depending on your application. It can also be diluted with sparkling water as a refreshing beverage or incorporated into culinary recipes that benefit from hibiscus flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 cups water
- 1 cup honey or granulated sugar
- 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers
