Hoisin Chicken
Description
Hoisin Chicken brings together sliced chicken breast and vegetables like broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, and carrots for a well-rounded stir-fry. The chicken is marinated in Shaoxing rice wine and cornstarch, helping maintain moisture and texture during cooking. Stir-frying garlic first releases its aroma and lays the flavor foundation. The sauce, made from hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper, is mixed with water and thickened with cornstarch to coat the ingredients evenly. The quick stir-fry method preserves the vegetables' crunch, while allowing the sauce to thicken and bind the flavors.
The dish is typically served hot alongside steamed rice, which absorbs the flavorful sauce. The balance of savory, slightly sweet, and umami notes from the hoisin and soy sauces complements the tender chicken and crisp vegetables. This approach yields a pleasing contrast of textures and an approachable flavor profile.
