Holiday Eggnog Custard Pie
Description
This Holiday Eggnog Custard Pie features a crust pressed into a pie plate and pre-baked to prevent sogginess. The filling is primarily a smooth custard made by creaming sugar and eggs, then blending in evaporated milk, eggnog, water, spiced rum, and salt. The custard is poured into the crust and sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg, contributing aromatic warmth and a seasonal touch. Baking at 350°F for one hour allows the custard to set firmly, testable by a clean toothpick.
The pie’s tender, creamy texture combined with the rich, spiced eggnog flavor makes it a suitable dessert for the holiday season. It can be served warm or chilled and paired with whipped cream for extra richness and festive presentation.
Using a homemade pie crust can improve texture and flavor, but a quality refrigerated crust also works. This pie requires gentle handling to achieve a smooth and firm custard consistency without curdling.
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust refrigerated
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 egg
- 1 12 oz evaporated milk can
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup eggnog
- 2 Tablespoon spiced rum optional
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- cinnamon
- ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Unroll pie crust dough and press the dough into a 9 inch pie plate. Poke holes in the bottom with a fork so it cooks without puffing up.
- Bake for 20 minutes and then remove from oven.
- Using a mixer, cream sugar and eggs on a medium speed until well combined.
- Add evaporated milk, eggnog, water, rum and salt. Mix on a low speed until combined.
- Poor mixture into the pie crust and lightly sprinkle the ground nutmeg and cinnamon over the top.
- Baked for 1 hour, until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Serve warm or chilled with whipped cream.
Notes
- For better flavor and texture, use a homemade pie crust instead of store-bought refrigerated crust if desired.
