Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe
Description
This Apple Crisp Recipe starts by tossing sliced apples with lemon juice, flour, sugar, and a mixture of warm spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. This coating thickens the apples and infuses them with aromatic notes during baking.
The topping is made from flour, brown and granulated sugars, oats, chopped pecans, baking powder, and spices. Cold butter is cut into this mixture to create a coarse crumb texture that bakes into a golden, crisp layer. When baked together, the tender, spiced apples beneath are complemented by the crunchy, nutty topping.
The finished crisp is served warm with salted caramel sauce drizzled on top and can be enhanced with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This combination enriches the dessert with sweet, salty, and creamy flavors for a satisfying finish.

- In a large bowl combine the flour, both sugars, oats, pecans, baking powder, nutmeg and cinnamon.
- Using a pastry blender or two forks, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles a coarse meal.
- Sprinkle over apple mixture.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crumb is golden and the apples are tender.
- Drizzle with salted caramel sauce and serve warm, with flaky sea salt and ice cream, if desired.
