Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream melds creamy vanilla ice cream with chunks of rich chocolate chip cookie dough. The smooth vanilla base is made with heavy cream, half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla, gently heated and churned. The cookie dough combines butter, sugars, milk, vanilla, flour, salt, and chocolate chips, chilled before being crumbled into the ice cream. This recipe offers a balance of creamy texture and chewy cookie dough bits, making it a treat with contrasting textures and flavors.

Description

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream begins with a vanilla ice cream base made from heavy cream, half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla flavoring, which is gently warmed to dissolve sugar before cooling and churning. The cookie dough is prepared separately by creaming together butter and sugars, adding milk, vanilla, flour, salt, and a portion of the chocolate chunks, then chilling it. Once the ice cream finishes churning, the cookie dough pieces and remaining chocolate chips are folded in, creating an ice cream studded with soft, sweet cookie dough bites and chocolate.

This combination delivers the creamy smoothness and coldness of vanilla ice cream with the chewy texture and chocolate notes of cookie dough, providing a varied mouthfeel. The ice cream hardens further in the freezer before serving to balance softness and firmness.

The recipe is ideal for homemade ice cream makers and provides an enjoyable treat combining two desserts into one. Chilling the cookie dough separately ensures it maintains its texture when mixed in. The amount of chocolate chunks can be adjusted according to preference.
