Homemade Dairy Queen Oreo Blizzard: 2-Ingredient Nostalgic Treat

This Homemade Dairy Queen Oreo Blizzard recreates the classic ice cream treat with just vanilla ice cream and crushed Oreo cookies. Blending the ice cream until smooth then pulsing in crushed cookies preserves chunks, delivering the signature thick, creamy texture punctuated by crunchy cookie pieces.

Description

The dessert begins by letting softened vanilla ice cream get slightly melty at room temperature to ease blending. The ice cream is blended until liquefied, then half the crushed Oreos are pulsed in briefly to distribute cookie pieces without pulverizing. After pouring into a glass, remaining crushed Oreos are sprinkled on top for extra texture.

This technique avoids thinning the mixture with milk, preserving thickness so the Blizzard can be served in a cup and kept inverted without spilling. The result is smooth ice cream interspersed with visible cookie fragments, mimicking the familiar texture of the original Blizzard.

The simplicity of ingredients and the care in blending maintain the distinct contrast between creamy and crunchy elements, creating a nostalgic treat suitable for at-home indulgence.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream softened
  • 6 Oreo cookies crushed

Instructions

  1. Allow the ice cream to soften at room temperature until it just begins to melt.
  2. Place ice cream into a blender.
  3. Blend until the ice cream becomes liquefied.
  4. Add half of the crushed Oreo cookies and pulse once or twice.
  5. Pour the blended ice cream into a glass.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cookie crumbs on the top of the Blizzard.

Notes

  • Avoid overblending to keep cookie pieces visible and maintain texture similar to the original Blizzard.
  • Do not add milk; it thins the mixture and changes the desired thick consistency allowing the Blizzard to be served upside down.
