Homemade Freezer Garlic Bread

This Homemade Freezer Garlic Bread features a blend of butter, olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, and dried parsley spread over thick slices of French bread. After freezing to firm up, the bread slices can be baked directly from frozen to achieve golden edges with a fragrant garlic flavor. The recipe offers convenience for easy storage and quick preparation when needed.

Description

Homemade Freezer Garlic Bread is made by combining room temperature salted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, and dried parsley into a smooth spread. Thick slices of French bread are cut and generously spread with the garlic butter mixture from edge to edge. The slices are first frozen on a baking sheet until the butter firms, then transferred to a freezer bag for storage up to three months.

To prepare, frozen slices are baked in a preheated 400°F oven for 10-15 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and crispy. Wrapping the slices in foil before baking results in softer garlic bread without crispy edges. This make-ahead approach allows for freshly baked garlic bread any time without extra prep on short notice.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 Tbsp butter $1.04, salted, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil $0.32
  • 4 cloves garlic $0.32, minced
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder $0.02
  • 1/4 tsp salt $0.02
  • 1 Tbsp parsley $0.30, dried
  • 1 loaf French bread $1.00

Instructions

  1. Add the butter, olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt, and parsley to a bowl. Mix the ingredients together until they form a fairly smooth mixture.
  2. Slice the French bread into 1-inch thick slices (12-16 slices, depending on the size of the loaf). Add 1/2 to 1 Tbsp of the garlic spread to each slice of bread and spread it from edge to edge. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and then place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes to allow the butter to firm up. Once firm, transfer the garlic bread to a gallon-sized freezer bag for longer storage. Store in the freezer up to three months.
  3. To cook the frozen slices of garlic bread, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Once the oven is heated, take as many slices out of the freezer as you'd like, and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.* If you prefer a softer garlic bread without crispy edges, wrap the slices in foil before baking.

Notes

  • Baking times may vary depending on the bread type used, so monitor the garlic bread closely during baking.
