Homemade Garlic Bread
Description
The Homemade Garlic Bread recipe transforms a French bread loaf into a flavorful side by combining softened salted butter with olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped fresh parsley. This mixture is spread evenly on the cut sides of the bread before baking at 400°F until the bread develops a golden crust. Optional grated Parmesan cheese can be sprinkled for additional flavor and slight savory sharpness.
The texture features a crisp toasted surface paired with the softness of the inner bread, enhanced by the buttery garlic spread. Baking the bread cut side up ensures even toasting without drying the bread out. The fresh parsley adds a subtle herbal brightness to the rich and garlicky butter base.
This garlic bread pairs well with pasta, soups, or salads, adding a warm, savory touch to the meal. It’s convenient to prepare ahead and store in the refrigerator wrapped in plastic for up to two days before baking, or freeze wrapped in foil for up to four months. Frozen garlic bread can be thawed overnight in the fridge or baked directly from frozen at a lower temperature with extended time to heat through.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread
- ½ cup butter softened, salted
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 to 4 cloves garlic minced, see notes for alternatives

- In a small bowl, combine butter, olive oil, garlic, and parsley until well mixed.

Notes
- Use a finely minced fresh garlic or a garlic press to maximize flavor.
- Substitute fresh garlic with 1½ teaspoons garlic powder if needed.
- Prepare the garlic bread in advance, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 2 days before baking.
- For freezing, wrap the prepared bread in aluminum foil and freeze for up to 4 months.
- To bake from frozen, thaw in the fridge overnight then bake as directed, or bake wrapped in foil at 350°F for 28 to 32 minutes until heated through.
