Homemade Hot Fudge

This Homemade Hot Fudge sauce blends melted semi-sweet chocolate with butter, evaporated milk, and powdered sugar, then is cooked to a smooth, thick texture. Heated gently and boiled for several minutes, the sauce gains richness and gloss before vanilla is stirred in. It’s a rich, pourable topping suitable for desserts.

Description

The Homemade Hot Fudge is prepared by melting chocolate chips and butter together, then incorporating warm evaporated milk and powdered sugar. The mixture is boiled while stirring constantly to thicken and develop a smooth consistency. Vanilla extract is added after cooking to enhance the flavor.

The result is a thick, smooth sauce that cools to a luscious texture, ideal for drizzling over ice cream, brownies, or other desserts. Its semi-sweet chocolate base balances richness with sweetness.

The recipe yields about 2 1/2 cups or 40 tablespoon servings. The sauce can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to three weeks and reheated gently before serving.

Doubling the batch is suggested when making for gatherings or gifts. Allowing the sauce to cool for 5-10 minutes before use helps it thicken slightly but remain pourable.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 can evaporated milk or 1 can
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • ½ cup butter salted
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Start by heating the evaporated milk slightly. You can do this either in the microwave by heating for about 45 seconds or on the stove by just heating on medium (but don’t boil). Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Make sure to stir constantly.
  3. Once it’s melted, add the warm evaporated milk and powdered sugar to the chocolate mixture and stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Boil, stirring constantly, for eight minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  6. Let sauce cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Store hot fudge in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.
  • Reheat gently before serving to restore pourable consistency.
  • Doubling the recipe provides enough for sharing and leftovers.
  • This recipe yields about 2 1/2 cups or 40 tablespoons of hot fudge sauce.
