Homemade Italian Dressing

This Homemade Italian Dressing blends extra virgin olive oil, white wine vinegar, honey, lemon juice, herbs, and spices into a balanced vinaigrette. It offers bright acidity, a touch of sweetness, and herby flavors like oregano, basil, and parsley. Fresh Parmesan cheese adds a subtle savory depth. It can be used as a salad dressing or marinade.

Description

The dressing is made by whisking together a combination of olive oil, white wine vinegar, and lemon juice, which provide a tangy foundation. Honey or sugar is added to gently balance the acidity. A mix of dried herbs—oregano, basil, parsley—and spices like garlic and onion powder deliver herbal aroma and flavor. Finely grated Parmesan cheese adds richness and umami. The dressing is seasoned with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes for a slight heat and seasoning complexity.

Once combined, the vinaigrette can be poured over leafy greens, vegetables, or used as a marinade for meats. The dressing separates naturally and should be shaken or whisked before serving. For those preferring fresh herbs, culinary adjustments can be made by substituting dried herbs with fresh in a ratio of one teaspoon dried to one tablespoon fresh.

To maintain quality, store the dressing in a sealed glass container in the refrigerator and use within 3 to 5 days. Bringing it to room temperature before use allows the flavors to express better and improves pourability.
