Homemade Kit Kat Bars (Copycat Recipe)

These Homemade Kit Kat Bars are a simple treat created by coating vanilla wafer pieces with melted dark chocolate to replicate the classic wafer bar texture and taste. The bars feature multiple layers of crisp wafers enveloped in chocolate that hardens after chilling. This copycat recipe yields four finger-sized bars that are enjoyable as a snack or dessert.

Description

The Homemade Kit Kat Bars feature vanilla wafers cut into finger-sized pieces, layered and coated with melted dark chocolate. The chocolate is melted carefully, then used as a binding and coating agent, creating a crisp snap from the wafers and a rich chocolate exterior. The bars are chilled between coating steps to ensure the chocolate sets firmly and evenly on all surfaces.

The process includes coating the wafer pieces on one side, chilling until firm, then coating the other sides before assembling pairs with additional melted chocolate used as glue. This method results in a crisp, chocolate-covered treat reminiscent of the commercial Kit Kat bar's distinctive texture and flavor.

This recipe yields four small bars and provides a home-friendly way to enjoy a chocolate wafer snack using simple ingredients and straightforward preparation.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 vanilla wafers
  • 60 g dark chocolate melted, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cut the 2 vanilla wafers in half lengthwise so you have 4 "finger" pieces.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the dark chocolate in 20-30 second increments until melted.
  3. Stir the chocolate mixture.
  4. Use an offset spatula to coat the surface of the vanilla wafer "fingers" (this will now be the "bottom") with the melted chocolate and repeat with the remainder.
  5. Place into the freezer or fridge for the chocolate to set.
  6. Once set, flip the vanilla wafer "fingers" so the chocolate side is on the bottom.
  7. Use an offset spatula to coat the surface and sides of the vanilla wafer with the remaining chocolate.
  8. Pop the tray back into the freeze or fridge for the chocolate to set, about 5-10 minutes.
  9. To join the two Kit Kats together, add a bit of chocolate to the bottom of the KitKat fingers and "glue" together.

Notes

  • This recipe yields four Kit Kat "fingers" in total.
