Homemade Marinara Sauce

This Homemade Marinara Sauce is a robust tomato base simmered with garlic, fresh basil, oregano, and seasonings for a classic Italian flavor. The sauce blends crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to provide body and a bright, balanced acidity. It’s simmered long enough to meld the flavors and thicken to a rich consistency, making it ideal for pasta or as a versatile red sauce base.

Description

The Homemade Marinara Sauce is crafted by gently sautéing minced garlic in olive oil to release its aroma before adding crushed tomatoes and their juices. The sauce combines the sweetness and acidity of canned tomatoes with the concentrated depth of tomato paste. Freshly chopped basil and dried oregano add herbal notes that complement the tomato base, while salt, black pepper, and onion powder enhance the overall savory flavor.

Simmering the mixture uncovered on low heat for around 20 minutes reduces excess liquid and integrates all ingredients, resulting in a thick and flavorful sauce. The stir-in sugar balances the tomato’s natural acidity, creating a well-rounded taste. This marinara sauce is versatile and can top pasta, pizza, or serve as a foundation for other dishes requiring a tomato base.

Once prepared, this sauce can be kept refrigerated for short-term use or frozen for longer storage, maintaining its flavor for future meals. This straightforward recipe captures the essence of classic marinara without needing fresh tomatoes or lengthy preparation, making it a practical choice for everyday cooking.
