Homemade Matcha Espresso Fusion
Description
Homemade Matcha Espresso Fusion starts by dissolving granulated sugar and high-quality matcha powder in room temperature water, ensuring a smooth base. Crushed ice is added next to chill the drink and help maintain distinct layers. Milk is poured slowly over the back of a spoon to create a smooth layer above the ice, preserving separation from the matcha.
Finally, hot espresso is carefully poured over the spoon atop the milk, forming the uppermost dark layer. This technique results in three visually distinct layers: vibrant green matcha at the bottom, creamy milk in the middle, and a dark coffee layer on top. Stirring blends these flavors offering earthy tea bitterness balanced by creamy milk and bold espresso.
For enhanced sweetness and to maintain layering, a small amount of sugar can be added to the milk before pouring. This drink suits anyone wanting a unique iced coffee and tea combination that looks striking when served and provides a mix of flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoon granulated sugar (or to taste)
- 2 teaspoon matcha high-quality
- ¼ C water room temperature
- 6 ice cubes crushed
- ½ C milk or non-dairy alternative
- 2 oz espresso or strong coffee, brewed hot
Instructions
- Place sugar and matcha in the bottom of a tall glass. Add water and mix well to dissolve the matcha and sugar.
- Add crushed ice cubes to the glass.
- Take a spoon and turn it around so the back side is facing the top. Position the spoon slightly above the ice. Carefully pour milk over top the back of the spoon. The milk will gently drizzle over top of the ice.
- Next, using the same technique, carefully pour the hot espresso over the back of the spoon on top of the milk and ice. The espresso will float to the top.
- Stick a straw in, give it a stir and enjoy.
Notes
- To achieve clear layer separation, pour milk and espresso slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the ice.
- Adding a small amount of sugar to the milk can help create three distinct layers by adjusting densities.
