Homemade Orange Creamsicle Popsicle Recipe
Description
This popsicle recipe combines peeled mandarin oranges, orange juice, and sugar blended briefly to break down the fruit. Heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract are added and blended further until the mixture becomes thick but not stiff. The balance of citrus with the rich cream and vanilla creates a creamy texture with bright orange flavor throughout.
The mixture is spooned into molds and frozen for four to six hours or overnight until solid. Allowing the molds to rest briefly at room temperature or rinsing them quickly under warm water loosens the popsicles for easy removal. This process yields a frozen treat that is creamy and cool, with bright orange flavor enhanced by real fruit.
This recipe is ideal for warm weather snacks or desserts and can keep little hands cleaner by using cupcake liners over the sticks to catch any drips. The citrus and cream combination mimics the texture and taste of traditional creamsicle popsicles without artificial ingredients.
Using a food processor ensures even mixing and smooth texture. The balance of sugar and cream is key to achieve a soft freeze rather than an icy popsicle. Adding vanilla enriches the flavor complexity without overpowering the citrus freshness.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 mandarin orange peeled
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Add oranges, orange juice and sugar to a food processor and process for 20 seconds. Add vanilla and whipping cream and process for 60 seconds. If mixture is thick, but not stiff, it's ready. If it's still quite runny, process for another 60 seconds.
- Spoon into mold and freeze 4-6 hours or overnight. Remove from freezer and let set on the counter for 2-5 minutes and remove from the mold. If necessary, run the mold under hot water for about 30 seconds to loosen the popsicles.
Notes
- Paper cupcake liners on the sticks help catch drips and keep hands clean.
- Process the mixture until thick but not stiff to get proper creamy texture before freezing.
- Let popsicles sit a few minutes at room temperature or run molds under warm water to release.
