Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups combine smooth peanut butter sweetened with icing sugar encased in a shell of melted milk chocolate. The peanut butter centers are cooled and shaped before being dipped in chocolate, resulting in bite-sized candies with a creamy, sweet peanut filling surrounded by mellow milk chocolate. These treats can be refrigerated or frozen to set firmly and enjoyed as a rich, self-made confection.

Description

This recipe for Homemade Peanut Butter Cups uses smooth peanut butter mixed with icing sugar to create a creamy, sweet peanut center. Individual balls of this filling are frozen to firm up, making them easy to handle when adding the chocolate coating. The cups are formed by layering melted milk chocolate in small paper liners, adding peanut butter balls, and smoothing melted chocolate on top. This creates distinct layers of chocolate and peanut filling.

The chocolate used is good quality milk chocolate melted gently, providing a mild sweetness that balances the saltiness of the peanut butter. Freezing the peanut butter balls before assembly helps maintain their shape and prevents the chocolate from melting the filling during preparation. Once assembled, refrigerating or freezing the peanut butter cups allows them to set into solid, grab-and-go candies.

These peanut butter cups serve as a homemade alternative to store-bought versions and are sized as mini cups using a 24-cup muffin tin with liners. They store well in an airtight container and can be kept frozen for longer-term storage if desired.
