Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs

Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs combine a mixture of melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, and creamy peanut butter, chilled until firm. The mixture is shaped into egg forms, frozen briefly, then dipped in melted chocolate almond bark with vegetable shortening for a smooth coating that hardens as it cools. These treat-sized confections replicate the flavors and texture of classic peanut butter eggs.

Description

The recipe starts by mixing melted unsalted butter with graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, and creamy peanut butter until well combined. This mixture is chilled for an hour to firm up, then portioned into two-tablespoon amounts and shaped by hand into egg shapes. After placing on parchment paper, the shaped eggs freeze for 30 minutes to harden. Meanwhile, chocolate almond bark is melted with vegetable shortening to create a smooth coating for dipping. Each peanut butter egg is dipped into the chocolate, covering fully, and set back on the parchment to allow the coating to harden at room temperature. The finished candies provide a creamy peanut butter center within a crisp chocolate shell.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup butter melted, unsalted
  • 2 ¼ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ¼ cup peanut butter creamy
  • 12 ounces chocolate almond bark
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl combine the butter, graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, and peanut butter.
  2. Refrigerate the mixture for 1 hour.
  3. Once the mixture has hardened, scoop 2 tablespoons of the mixture and form it into an egg shape. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and repeat with the remaining mixture.
  4. Place eggs in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  5. After peanut butter eggs have hardened, melt almond bark and vegetable shortening in a medium bowl in the microwave.
  6. Dip peanut butter eggs into the melted chocolate using a fork and coat completely. Let any excess chocolate drip off and then set the dipped eggs back onto the parchment paper.
  7. Allow chocolate to harden and enjoy!
