Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs Recipe

Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs feature a creamy peanut butter and butter mixture sweetened with powdered sugar and flavored with vanilla, shaped into oval eggs, chilled, then dipped in melted chocolate for a smooth, sweet candy with a rich peanut butter center.

Description

This recipe begins by heating peanut butter and unsalted butter together until melted and combined, then stirring in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until thickened. Spoonfuls of this mixture are shaped into oval egg shapes and chilled until firm. Separately, chocolate is melted until smooth and used to coat each peanut butter egg by dipping, then the eggs are set on parchment to harden.

The final candy offers a soft yet firm peanut butter interior contrasted with a glossy chocolate coating. The texture balances creamy sweetness with chocolate richness, reminiscent of a classic candy treat shaped seasonally for holidays.

Store the peanut butter eggs refrigerated in an airtight container to maintain freshness and firmness, making them a good choice for gifting or home enjoyment.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup peanut butter creamy
  • ¼ cup butter ½ stick, unsalted
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
  • 12 ounces melting chocolate (1 bag)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, or in a microwave-safe bowl, heat the peanut butter and butter together until they are melted. Stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla until it thickens.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture onto a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Shape into oval egg shape. Chill for about 30 minutes.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate, stirring every 30 seconds, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  4. Use a fork to dip each egg into the chocolate and return to the parchment paper until the chocolate sets.

Notes

  • Keep the peanut butter eggs refrigerated in an airtight container to extend freshness up to two weeks.
  • Shape the peanut butter mixture quickly before chilling to ensure consistent size and firm texture.
  • Use a fork to dip the eggs in chocolate and allow excess to drip off for a smoother coating.
  • Place dipped eggs on parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate even setting.
