Homemade Snickers Bars

These Homemade Snickers Bars recreate the classic candy bar by layering peanut butter chocolate, nougat with peanuts, caramel, and a final chocolate layer. Each of the four layers brings its own texture: the chocolate layers are firm and smooth, the nougat is soft and chewy, peanuts add crunch, and the caramel adds a rich, chewy finish. This recipe is assembled in a pan and chilled to set for clean layering, resulting in a dense bar that satisfies sweet and salty cravings.

Description

Homemade Snickers Bars combine creamy chocolate and peanut butter with a nougat center studded with peanuts and topped with a layer of gooey caramel before finishing with another chocolate-peanut butter layer. The recipe involves melting chocolate and peanut butter to form the base, then pressing a nougat dough made with marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, and powdered sugar on top with peanuts sprinkled in. A warm caramel mixture is poured over, followed by a final chocolate and peanut butter topping. Chilling between steps helps set each layer clearly.

The resulting bars have a mix of textures ranging from the soft nougat and chewy caramel to the crunchy peanuts, with smooth chocolate coating them. The balance of sweet caramel and chocolate with salty, roasted peanuts reflects the original candy bar’s appeal. These bars can be sliced and served as rich, indulgent treats for sharing.

For best results, use store-bought peanut butter for ease and consistent texture, and unwrap the caramel candies before melting with cream. The bars store well refrigerated or in a cool environment for up to several days, maintaining their texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Servings

For layer 1 (chocolate):

  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter see note 1, creamy

For layer 2 (nougat):

  • 7 ounces marshmallow creme fluff
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter creamy
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup peanuts dry roasted, unsalted

For layer 3 (caramel):

  • 11 ounces caramels unwrapped (see note 2)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

For layer 4 (chocolate):

  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter creamy

Instructions

To make layer 1:

  1. Line the bottom of an 11-inch by 7-inch baking pan with parchment paper or wax paper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup chocolate chips and 3 tablespoons peanut butter. Microwave for 60 seconds at full power and stir to combine. Microwave a few more seconds if needed, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  3. Pour chocolate mixture into prepared pan and spread evenly. Freeze until the chocolate is hard, about 2 to 3 minutes.

To make layer 2:

  1. In a medium sized bowl, combine marshmallow fluff, 1/4 cup peanut butter, and 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar. Using a wooden spoon or strong spatula, stir until a soft nougat dough ball forms.
  2. Remove nougat dough from the bowl and press on top of hardened chocolate layer. Sprinkle 1 cup peanuts on top of nougat and gently press them down.

To make layer 3:

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 11 ounces caramels and 1/4 cup heavy cream. Stir constantly until caramels have melted and cream is incorporated.
  2. Pour immediately over the peanut layer, using the back of a spoon to spread evenly. Refrigerate until caramel has set, about 5 minutes.

To make layer 4:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and 3 tablespoons peanut butter. Microwave for 60 seconds at full power and stir to combine. Microwave a few more seconds if needed, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  2. Pour chocolate mixture over caramel layer and spread evenly. Refrigerate until chocolate layer has hardened, about 10 minutes. Using a sharp knife, cut into 12 bars and serve.

Notes

  • Store-bought creamy peanut butter can be used to simplify preparation without affecting flavor.
  • Unwrap the caramels before melting with heavy cream to ensure a smooth caramel layer.
  • This recipe yields approximately 12 snickers bars when cut into pieces.
  • Store the finished bars covered in the refrigerator or in a cool place to keep their texture.
