Homemade Supreme Pizza

Homemade Supreme Pizza starts with a hand-kneaded dough mixed from yeast, sugar or honey, water, olive oil, salt, and flour, optionally allowed to rise before stretching. It features a classic topping combination including pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella and Parmesan, sausage, pepperoni, salami, and an assortment of vegetables. Baking at 425°F melts the cheese and crisps the crust.

Description

The recipe begins by activating yeast in warm water with sugar or honey, then mixing with olive oil, salt, and flour to form a dough that can be kneaded until stiff but pliable. Optionally allowing it to rise up to an hour softens the dough and develops flavor. The dough is rolled or stretched to fit greased pizza pans, then given a brief resting period before assembly.

Toppings include a spread of savory pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and assorted meats such as ground pork sausage, pepperoni, and salami. Vegetables like green bell pepper, black olives, red onions, and mushrooms complete the flavor and texture variety. The pizza is baked until the cheese melts and the crust turns golden and crisp on the edges.

This pizza delivers a combination of meaty richness, melty cheese, and fresh vegetable bites on a homemade crust. The dough method allows customization of rising time for texture preference, while the assorted toppings make it hearty and flavorful. It can be served as a main dish for casual meals or shared gatherings.

Ingredients

Servings

Dough

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar or 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup water warm
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil divided
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Toppings

  • ½ cup pizza sauce or to taste
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan Cheese shredded
  • 4 ounces ground pork sausage or ground beef, cooked
  • 2 ounces pepperoni chopped
  • 1 ounce salami sliced, or other deli meat as desired
  • ¼ cup green bell pepper diced
  • ¼ cup black olive sliced
  • 3 tablespoons red onion thinly sliced
  • 2 large mushrooms thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the yeast, sugar, and water. Cover and let stand for 5-10 minutes, until bubbles form on top.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix together yeast mixture, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and salt. Add in 3 cups of flour, a cup at a time, mixing after each addition. If the dough seems sticky, add more flour, a couple of tablespoons at a time.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until slightly stiff, about 6 minutes.
  5. If time allows, let the dough rise for 1 hour.* If allowing to rise, punch the dough down before the next step.
  6. Lightly grease two pizza pans with oil. Roll out the dough and stretch to fill the pans. Use your fingers to press and stretch as needed.
  7. Let dough rise in pans for 10 minutes. Poke pizza dough with a fork all over.
  8. Brush pizza dough with remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and top with pizza sauce, toppings, and cheese as desired.
  9. Bake 15-18 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden.

Notes

  • The dough can be baked right away without rising for a quicker pizza, but allowing up to one hour of rising adds flavor and chewiness.
