Homemade Wendy's Frosty (Healthy and High Protein)

Report
This Homemade Wendy’s Frosty is a creamy, chocolate-flavored protein shake made by blending frozen banana, chocolate milk, cocoa powder, fat-free Cool Whip, and chocolate protein powder. The addition of a small amount of xanthan gum enhances the texture, lending a fluffier consistency reminiscent of the traditional fast food dessert. It is a cold, rich treat that combines familiar dessert flavors with a protein boost.

Description

The recipe combines frozen banana and ice cubes with chocolate milk and cocoa powder to create a thick, chilly base. Fat-free Cool Whip adds lightness and creaminess without excess fat. Chocolate protein powder enriches the nutritional profile, while vanilla extract deepens flavor complexity. The optional xanthan gum helps stabilize the blend, yielding a smooth and fluffy texture similar to the original Frosty. Blending thoroughly eliminates chunks and ensures even consistency.

Served immediately, this shake replicates the familiar creamy chocolate dessert with a healthier protein focus. Serving suggestions include garnishing with peanut butter powder, crumbled snack bars, chocolate chips, or whipped cream to customize texture and taste.

Options include omitting cocoa powder and substituting vanilla protein powder for a vanilla version. Using specialty dark cocoa powder intensifies chocolate richness. Use xanthan gum sparingly to avoid altering mouthfeel or causing digestive discomfort.

Servings
  • 8 ice cubes
  • 1 banana frozen
  • ¾ cup chocolate milk alt: vanilla/skim milk, Fairlife 2%
  • ½ tbsp cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup Cool Whip fat free
  • 1 coop chocolate protein powder I used Clean Simple Eats Brownie Batter
  • plash vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp xanthan gum optional

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a blender.
  2. Blend on high for 40-60 seconds or until ice and banana are thoroughly combined. Blend longer if any chunks remain. The texture is what makes this Homemade Wendy’s Frosty so great.
  3. Serve immediately. Garnish with PBfit, crumbled G2G bar (code: APOP for a discount), chocolate chips, whipped cream, etc.

Notes

  • To make a vanilla version, leave out cocoa powder and use vanilla protein powder instead.
  • Xanthan gum is optional but creates a fluffier texture; adding too much can cause unusual texture and digestive upset.
  • Specialty dark cocoa powder enhances chocolate depth and richness.
