Honey Butter Skillet Corn Recipe
Description
Honey Butter Skillet Corn starts by melting butter in a frying pan and cooking corn kernels until hot, with careful evaporation of any water released by the corn. Then honey and cream cheese are stirred in until the cream cheese melts, forming a rich, slightly sweet sauce. Seasonings of salt and pepper balance the flavors, while hot sauce can add a gentle kick depending on preference. Chopped chives or green onions at the end provide a fresh contrast to the creamy corn.
This dish works well as a side for grilled or roasted meats and is flexible regarding corn type; fresh, frozen, or canned corn can be used as long as excess moisture is drained or cooked off. The optional hot sauce can be adjusted to maintain mildness or introduce heat.
Using mild hot sauces like Frank’s can keep the heat gentle, while spicier varieties bring more intensity. Thaw and drain frozen or canned corn before cooking for best texture.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 4 cups corn see notes
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 4 tablespoons cream cheese can be light
- ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper sea salt
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce optional - see notes
- 2 tablespoons chive or green onions, minced
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the corn and cook, stirring a few times, until it's hot. If there is liquid in the bottom of your pan, let it mostly evaporate before moving on to the next step.
- Add the honey and cream cheese and stir until the cream cheese has melted. Season with salt, pepper, and if using, hot sauce. Stir in the chives.
Notes
- Fresh corn from the cob is ideal in summer, but thawed or drained frozen or canned corn works year-round.
- Choose a mild hot sauce for subtle heat, or a spicier option for more intensity.
